People Who Cause Headaches
Today there seem to be a lot of people who are too impatient to wait for anything. They get antsy if they don’t get an answer to a text message in a minute or two. They get angry and abusive if they have to wait for a table at a restaurant. There are more and more mothers who aren’t able to be quietly attentive to their children, but expect them to be able to ace every effort from the get-go. Of course it’s wonderful to have life be so convenient, but when the competition to provide ultra convenience and service becomes as overheated as it is today, people start to feel an unfounded sense of entitlement. They get frustrated and even angry if made to suffer the slightest inconvenience, or if a service is not up to their expectations. Maybe as a society we are paying more than we know for our desire for convenience at any price.
Working with Japan
Working with Interpreters
By Patricia Pringle
The Japanese promote foreign language education to meet the needs of their global businesses. Nowadays, Japanese multinational companies recruit for English ability, and many meetings between Japanese and Americans take place entirely in English. However, interpreting is still needed for critical meetings when language is an issue. Interpreting can break through the language barrier and enable the Japanese and Americans to concentrate on the substance of the discussion. Each side can express itself and be confident that the message is conveyed accurately.
