A middle-aged businessman is strumming away on a mock guitar, his left hand a blur on the fretboard as he powers his way through a series of heavy riffs. Next to him a young couple holding large plastic guns is taking on an unrelenting army of zombies. Bang. Twang. Lights are flashing and the air is thick with the sound of in-game explosions and pounding music. Spread across the multi-floored video arcade in Tokyo’s Akihabara district is a collection of brightly designed sticker-picture booths, simple crane games, shoot 'em ups, beat 'em ups, racing games, card-based games, music games, and even a few machines that defy categorization.

Positives of Working with One Another
In my work, I meet a great many Japanese who work closely with Americans. Some have long-term assignments abroad; others travel frequently between Japan and the US for meetings. Still others are just getting started. They want to talk about the challenges and issues confronting them as Japanese working with Americans and get some practical advice about how to make things better. Sometimes, though, it is good to step back and look at what one side appreciates about how the other side works. Then we can look at the challenges. Let's hear what the Japanese most often say they appreciate about the way Americans work.
