If US Forces Withdraw from Japan

Every Wednesday night, on the way to a cram school to which my daughter goes, I turn into 810AM in my car and listen to Rush Limbaugh. As usual, Limbaugh furiously criticizes policies of the Democrats and the Obama administration. One day when my daughter got in the car, I turned off the radio. "What were you listening to, Dad?" she asked. "Well, American politics," I replied.

Every Sunday evening, on the way to a baseball field where my son and his teammates play, I turn into 810AM again in the car, and listen to A Prairie Home Companion with Garrison Keillor. I enjoy songs and talks by Keillor and his cast. One day when my son got in the car, "What are these guys saying, Dad?" he asked. "They are talking about the nature of Texans. People living in State of Texas, you know," I replied.

You might imagine that those conversations were carried out in the United States of America. No. Not in the US actually. These talks with my children were in Japan!

810AM is American Forces Network (AFN) Tokyo which provides 24-hour radio services. AFN's nickname is "Eagle 810." Its principal audience is US military members, civilian employees, and their families. But, Japanese people are its audience, too.
